Leo Messi reveal why he will never be friends with Ronaldo

Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are undoubtedly two of the greatest footballers to ever play the sport - but they don't have much of a relationship off the pitch.

They are both yet to win a World Cup with their countries but will both star at next summer's greatly anticipated tournament in Russia.

Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, has admitted he does not think he will ever be good friends with Cristiano Ronaldo, despite the Real Madrid forward claiming the pair could be pals in the future.

The duo have remained rivals throughout their careers, taking turns to win the Ballon d’Or since 2008.

Although Messi and Ronaldo have never shown disdain for each other in public, they are not known to have a relationship off the pitch.

The Argentine feels it might never happen in the foreseeable future.

“I don’t know if we will be [friends in the future],” Messi told World Soccer magazine.

“Friendship is built through spending time together and getting to know each other.

“We have no relationship, mainly because we only see each other at awards ceremonies, and that’s the only time we speak.

“Everything is fine, but our lives don’t cross very often.”
